Church With Community Learning Opportunities

October 25, 2022 Carrie

Faith-Rooted ABCD Community of Practice

Sponsored by the ABCD Institute and co-hosted by World Renew, Episcopal Relief & Development, and Embrace Communities.

We are a group of faith-filled, faith-rooted individuals who have a desire to learn and practice Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) as we engage with our local communities.

Our Purpose: To gather people of faith communities, working in the areas of mercy, justice, and community development, to learn from, network with, and share stories, experiences, tools, and challenges with one another. Our hope is this is an opportunity to build on the assets in our neighborhoods and communities, addressing shared or recurring challenges and how we turn them into opportunities.

When: Bi-monthly on the 4th Tuesday of every other month at 2pm EST starting in October.  Register HERE!

Mercy and Justice Network

If you’re involved in mercy and justiceministries within the church (deacons, outreach ministry leaders, community transformation leaders, service leaders) this is for you!  Bring questions, share and listen to stories, and discover resources together. We will be guided by World Renew staff and other local leaders. Sign up to get updates.

Next meeting date: November 8 at 7:00 pm (Eastern time). Register HERE!

Bridges Out of Poverty Training

April 26, 2022 Carrie

The City of Holland Human Relations Commission will host a two-week Lunch & Learn on “Bridges Out of Poverty,” from noon to 2 pm at Herrick District Library, on Wednesdays, May 18 and 25.   This free, community training is based on Dr. Ruby K. Payne’s research and teaching on understanding the dynamics that cause and maintain poverty from the individual to the systemic level. Todd Krygsheld, Executive Director of Escape Ministries and a certified trainer for Bridges Out of Poverty, will conduct the training.

Bridges Out of Poverty is intended for employers, community and faith organizations, social service agencies, educators, healthcare providers, courts and law enforcement.  “As a result of the training, participants will develop a greater appreciation for their community seeing it through new eyes, be able to distinguish between generational and situational poverty and discover new tools to foster relationships of mutual respect and understanding. All of this will have an impact on programs, policies and services throughout the Holland community,” said Krygsheld.

2022 CROP Hunger Walk

March 23, 2022 Carrie

On April 23 and 24 we will continue to fight against the challenges of disease, displacement, disaster, conflict, and other causes of hunger. Join us as we raise funds to help neighbors near and far get the meals they need today and sustainable food security for tomorrow. We encourage all walkers to sign up and request donations online. The April 23 walk begins at 8:30 AM at Holland Christian High School and the April 24 walk at 1:30 PM at Beechwood Reformed Church.

Over the past 40 years, thousands of walkers have raised over $4 million to address local and global hunger needs through the Holland/Zeeland CROP Hunger Walk!  Thank you to all those who have joined us throughout the years, whether by walking or donating.  We invite you to continue with us on this journey to end hunger, one step at a time!

Last Year we raised $75,545.00 with over 200 participants!

This year our goal is to top $100,000 with 300 walkers coming alongside us!
